Mobile Phone Recycling explained

Here at mopay.co.uk we often get asked what we do with your old mobile phones after you have recycled them for cash or vouchers? In order to answer this question we have included a little more insight within this section to try and highlight the main areas of the mobile phone recycling process and explain how easy it is to get cash for your old mobile phone.

The first part of the mobile phone recycling process will be the most well known and this is where you, our valued customers, log on to mopay.co.uk and sell your old mobile phones for cash or vouchers in 5 simple steps. Upon completion of your order, mopay.co.uk will send you a FREEPOST envelope for you to send us back your old mobile phones. This bag also deserves a mention as it is made from wax coated paper sourced from well managed forests by the FSC (Forrest Stewardship Council). Safe to say this is far more kind to the environment than the plastic bags sent out by our competitors such as Mazuma and Envirofone.

Once your mobile phone arrives at mopay's accredited treatment facility it will be tested and graded and the appropriate cash amount for the mobile phone will be sent to you. (Don't forget mopay.co.uk is the only site to have a price promise for non working mobile phones and this is displayed in the phone selector section for your make and model of mobile phone)

All mobile phones that mopay.co.uk receive are scanned into checkMEND, the world's largest database of stolen and counterfeit goods and disabled mobile phones. Mobiles are also data wiped and software upgraded to ensure data erasure from the mobile phone.

The mobile phone will then proceed into the next stage of the process. Wherever possible, mopay.co.uk will endeavour to reuse your mobile phone, as reuse is the preferred option to reprocessing your old mobile phone. Mobile phones with minor damage and scratches will be refurbished and placed into stock with the working mobiles ready to be sold. mopay.co.uk has a zero waste and landfill policy and endeavour to reuse or recycle every mobile phone that we receive. Older and heavily damaged mobile phones are sent to be processed, and nothing goes to waste. The plastic is ground down for use in low end products such as road cones and the good old Frisbee! The precious metals inside are also removed for reuse. This has another positive point as it reduces the need for mining these raw materials which can damage existing wildlife habitats.

So where do your old mobile phones go? I hear you ask! Well we sell them in to a truly global market, which includes the UK, so some of your mobile phones that you sell to mopay.co.uk remain right here. The majority however are sold into emerging markets to help people conduct business and communicate helping benefit others where access to forms of communication may be limited - especially in remote villages and areas. Nations include Africa, Asia and Europe.

This completes the mobile phone recycling process and hopefully you will have a better idea of just how your old mobile phone not only rewards you with a little extra cash in your pocket but also the environment and the new owner of your old mobile.

To date, mopay.co.uk has recycled over 1 million mobile phones and paid out over £3million to customers selling their old mobile phone for cash. Make sure you carry on selling and recycling your mobile phone for cash every time you upgrade it.
